The speaker recalls visiting the Boat Hoose with two women on a misty afternoon before high winds and surf took it away. Others report rebuilding, but the speaker has not returned to see it.

The speaker separates the remembered visit from reports after the storm. Nothing in the closing statement explains the absence from the rebuilt place.

Under the heading 'THE LAST TIME I / SAW THE BEACH', the speaker recalls wearing 'our white trowersers', going to the 'Boat Hoose' with 'these Two beautiful / women', and learning that storm 'surf would TAKE it AWAY.' It ends 'still I have not gone / back to see it.'

The memory is framed by loss and report: the pier is said to have been 'built back up', and the closing rows say only 'still I have not gone / back to see it.' Several handwritten words, including the placement of 'ROLLED', remain provisional.
