By Jack Joseph Smith

Do HE lit the Light, And the fading walls found the faded yellow flickering across their cold crack's from breathing stove. (I AM feaverishly Alive, And what more could A man Ask!) HE stuffed the cedar into the grate, And lit the crips into A roar, slapped his pistol sides, Kneaded his blood into the floor, And laid his base for spice over the stove.

The narrator describes a man lighting a room and cedar fire, asserting that he is alive, then handling a pistol and kneading blood into the floor.

The writer places the declaration of being alive between the firelit scene and the man's handling of blood and a pistol. The man asks what more he could want, then returns to actions that mix domestic preparation with violence.

Under the heading 'Do', the handwritten scene shows a man who 'lit the Light', feeds a stove, and says '(I AM feaverishly Alive, / And what more could A man / Ask!)'.

Domestic actions, 'slapped his pistol / sides', and 'laid his base for / spice over the stove' mix tenderness and threat. A word after the heading is not legible and is left out.
